The Jungfräiske Mäinskup is a club that campaigns for the East Frisian language and culture, wants to preserve it and lead it into the future. The club acknowledges the Jongfryske Mienskip, which has been in existence for over 100 years, representing our sister organization. Nevertheless, the political position of the East Frisians in Germany today is different from that of the Frisians in the province of Fryslân in the Netherlands.
The interests of the Frisian minority, which is recognized as such in both countries, are represented by political parties in the provincial parliament in Leeuwarden in the Netherlands and thus receive legislative legitimacy. In Germany, there is still no real political representation of the Frisian minority in the state parliament of Lower Saxony or the German Bundestag.
Strengthening the Frisian interests can only succeed if the Frisian self-image and a regional self-confidence are awakened or strengthened in East Frisia. In the eyes of the Jungfräiske Mäinskup, this happens primarily through the awareness of the Frisian origin and the East Frisian Platt. East Frisian as a Frisian-Low German contact language and Saterlandic Frisian as an East Lauwers Frisian language are increasingly being displaced by High German today. This displacement should be stopped so that the language can be revitalized.
Even though Jungfräiske Mäinskup itself is not politically active, it firmly rejects separatism as well as left-wing and right-wing extremism, as these ideologies always have a destructive effect on societies and can never fulfill the idea of a free society.
Like every club, the Jungfräiske Mäinskup can only exist in the long term and pursue its goals if many people work together. You do not have to be a member of our club to strengthen the self-image of the Frisians in East Frisia. Nevertheless, we would be delighted if we could welcome you to our community. Because everyone can contribute to the whole as a part. We therefore invite everyone to support the club. Any help of any kind is welcome. Some support options are:
- Entry into the association
- Financial support (one-time or regular)
- Share our content on social networks
- Support for one-off or regular campaigns
- and much more
